Since 1990 memorial activities dedicated to the victimes of communist genocide were arrnged at the building of the railway station where a memorial plaque to the repressed people is put up.

In 2002 a group of the repressed Dobele residents came out with an idea to create a new, more obsevable memorial site to the victims of the repressions of 1941 and 1949. This intent was materialized due to financing by the Dobele Town Municipality and teamwork by a lot of people. The author of the memorial group is achitect Jānis Kukša. The monument was made by scultor Andis Egle and stone-cutter Guntis Panders.

From the achitectonic point of wiew the memorial group resembles a platform from which deported people were once taken away. By terminating the advancement to the East, it closes with a sculptural formation - a huge boulderwhich has left a deep trace in the concrete behind it. The cymbolic railway track is made of a cmpositional flower plantation. The boulder included in the memorial group was found in the territory of Dobele pagasts, on the land of Juris Dabra, a former victim of political repressions. The owner willingly donated the boulder for the establishment of the memorial group.

The Memorial Site to the Victims of Communist Genocide was unveiled on 14 June, 2005.
