The author of the sculpture is architect Jānis Kukša. On realising the necessity to create some spatial accent and to landscape the surroundings in the town centre at the junction of the main streets, the architect got an idea to install a sculpture - clock there, which would not only count the physical time, but also notify it as a philosophic category. In order to emphasize the symbolic meaning of the time flow, the sculpture is equipped with a water supply system, which washes against the three polished stone planes and maintains a fixed water level in the pool around the sculpture.
The sculpture was unveiled on 16 July 2004 in honour of the 750th anniversary of Dobele that was celebrated during the Town Festival 2004.
The Dobele Town Council, the joint stock company Dobeles dzirnavnieks and the joint stock company Unibanka financed the creation of the Sculpture - Clock.
